Made in Brasil

To celebrate the language and culture of our host country, each year the Portuguese Department at St. Nicholas organises “Made in Brasil”, a Portuguese-language literary celebration, dedicated each year to an important figure in Brazilian literary history.

All community members are invited to participate in this celebration by writing a poem or short story in Portuguese. From these, the judging committee selects a series of texts that best represent each category (Early Years, Primary, Secondary, Staff, Parents) to be published in an anthology, which is released at the end of the first semester, accompanied by an awarding ceremony attended by the community.

Each published author receives a copy of the book free of charge. Additional copies of the anthology are then made available to purchase, with all proceeds then being used to purchase fiction and textbooks in a public school library in the community of Paraisópolis.

Here, Portuguese teachers from St. Nicholas organise a local version of “Made in Brasil”. Students there send us texts, and one of them is published in the anthology, to represent the community in Paraisópolis.

Together and mixed
Alone, we are just one.
Someone, somehow unique.
Hand-in-hand, however,
we are everyone:
Mixed, different, united.
Together, we are uniquely better.

Inter-House Festival

The Inter-House Festival is a traditional sporting event, expected and celebrated year after year in St. Nicholas. It aims to promote House Spirit, in a friendly atmosphere of competition and participation. Students and teachers, boys and girls, younger and older, all work together towards a common goal. There are four competitions per category and the rules allow all children to participate in all games.

It is a unique opportunity for all students from Grade 2 to Year 10 to live together to compete and experience the various sports, developing independence, initiative and responsibility, in a unique and different experience.

In addition to sports games, other events create a fun environment and unforgettable moments, such as themed dinners, the traditional pajama breakfast, free hours at the pool, parties and much more.

Team-work, union, participation, competition, dispute, victories, defeats, emotion, cheering, overcoming, coexistence, friendship, collaboration, tiredness, laughter, fun, are a few words that can describe the spirit of the Inter-House Festival.
