The Middle Years (Grade 6 to Grade 10)
Offered for learners aged 11 to 16 years old
Blending IB philosophy, our homegrown programme with an exciting, unique core and ending with Cambridge University IGCSE qualification In the middle section the learners consolidate the learning from the PYP and engage in an academically rigorous, inquiry-based experience, taught by inspiring and inspirational teachers from Brazil and around the globe.
The 4PEAKs
Passion, Peer, Project and Play
The 4PEAKs is designed specifically with the Diploma core in mind. Learners engage under one of Seven Global umbrella themes of their choice.

Groups are arranged vertically and contain learners form Grade 6 to 10. There are four learning cycles following the design cycle of inspiration, creation, prototyping and expression. During the inspiration phase, the emphasis is on Human Connection with team building, group dynamics, and exploratory day trips to see the world and make new connections. Creation is hand on “making activities” with an emphasis on creative problem solving and prototyping for projects.
The core of 4Peaks and Global Perspectives extends the PYP transdisciplinary programme into the Middle Years.
Global Perspectives
Global Perspectives iGlobal Perspectives is planned horizontally for grades 6 to 9 and consists of planned transdisciplinary investigations. There are structured units of inquiry and the learners prioritise group working, research and presentation skills.
Suggesting solutions to global issues such as water, education and violence is an essential part of the GP units and the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills to solving real life issues. This way, young learners have the opportunity to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the world they live in. GP provides continuity and progression from the PYP units of inquiry. Neither aspect to the core is graded as we seek to promote intrinsic motivations for learning.
The Disciplines
A Language Rich Curriculum
Meeting the 21st century needs of international and Brazilian learners first Language courses are offered in English, Korean, Japanese, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
Humanities
An integrated Humanities course based on themes, concepts and global understanding.
Science
Based in real world practical experiences to embed understanding and application. Six purpose built technology rich science labs with eight specialist teachers and two lab technicians aid practical labs and experiments and allow access to inspirational learning in Science.
Mathematics
An international curriculum provides an exciting pupil catered experience that focuses on academic rigour, external qualification to produces confident learners with a sense of achievement and a love maths.
The Arts and PE Music, Art, Drama and PE are integral and valued in the learning experience.
IGCSE Academic rigour and international qualifications in Years 9 and 10
Tried, tested and trusted by schools worldwide and recognized by leading universities and employers worldwide as an international passport to progression and success. Learners @Pinheiros typically sit Cambridge University IGCSE courses in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Humanities.

Learning Spaces
Learning spaces have been purpose designed for learning and provide choice and opportunity not present in traditional Classrooms.
The Student Council and the house system allow learners to take action and make a difference in their world.
Making a Difference
Residential & Life Skills Trips
In life skills learners have the opportunity to approach unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with courage and forethought and have the independence of spirit to explore new roles. Activities range from exploring underground cave systems in PETAR, hiking and rappelling in Itatiaia, canoeing in Saco do Mamanguá and rock climbing and rappelling in Pedra do Baú, Learners organise tent, cooking and cleaning. The trip places an emphasis on a healthy diet and living in an outdoor environment. An opportunity to take part in real life situations.
